Corporate donations to political parties have become increasingly significant, highlighting how much costlier elections are becoming. The latest data from the Election Commission of India shows that out of the 15 largest GSDP states, 13 have recorded growth in political donations between FY19 and FY24. States like Delhi, Gujarat, and Maharashtra topped the list in FY24 with the highest contributions to political parties, with the ruling party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), receiving the largest share. Major corporate donors included Prudent Electoral Trust, Derive Investments, and the Murugappa Group, all of whom led electoral funding efforts in FY24. For more details, please watch this video.
