Aahna was born on October 21, 2013, in a private hospital in Rajkot. Ten days later, she became India’s youngest holder of a Permanent Account Number (PAN) when she received a PAN card from National Securities Depository Ltd (NSDL).
Her proud parents — father Apoorva Modi and mother Aashiniben Modi — are overjoyed that chubby-cheeked Aahna has got this unique distinction within 10 days of her birth.
Modi had earlier approached officials to get a PAN card for his first-born child Arham, now 18 months old. It was then that he came to know that the youngest PAN card holder in India was a girl in West Bengal. “I then decided to get a PAN card for my next child as soon as possible,” he told Business Line .
He said all the members in his family are PAN card holders as it is an important identification document. “I wanted to start financial planning for my children as soon as possible. That’s why I have got PAN cards for both of them. I already have a fixed deposit for my son as part of long-term financial planning for him.”
And what do the Modis expect to do with a PAN on their new born baby?
Modi, who runs an engineering business, plans to deposit all the monetary gifts the baby girl receives into a bank account in her name. Besides, he also plans to open a Public Provident Fund (PPF) account for her so that she receives the maturity sum when she turns 15.
Since there is no minimum age required to apply for a PAN card, this is perfectly in order, Pradeep Jain, Tax Consultant, told Business Line . Besides, this also creates public awareness.
Aahna has broken the record that was earlier held by Bipasha Modak of West Bengal, who became a PAN card holder at just 22 days. She was born on August 11, 2010.
