Sixteen former ministers of the UPA government have got eviction notices for Government bungalows, Minister of Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu told the Lok Sabha in a written reply on Wednesday.

These ministers have been staying unauthorised in Government bungalows for over a month now.

Naidu informed the House that these ministers owe damage charges of around ₹21 lakh for one month of unauthorised stay till July 26, 2014. Damage charges ranged from ₹53,250 per month in case of Type V accommodation of Lalchand Kataria to ₹2,43,678 for Type III accommodation of Jaipal Reddy.

Kapil Sibal, Ajit Singh, Farooq Abdullah, Beni Prasad Verma, Pallam Raju, Girija Vyas, Krishna Tirath, S.K. Jena, Sachin Pilot, Jitendra Singh, Pradip Jain Aditya, Porika Balram Naik, Killi Kriparani and Manikrao Hodya Gavit are among other former ministers who are in unauthorised possession of such bungalows.

Besides this, Naidu said that another 21 former ministers are staying in General Pool Bungalows and have been given 15 days to move into their entitled accommodation which will be provided by respective House Committees.

These former ministers, who are members of either Rajya Sabha or Lok Sabha have been advised to obtain accommodation from their respective pools, include A.K. Anthony, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mallikarjuna Kharge, Veerappa Moily, Vyalar Ravi, Oscar Fernandes, Jairam Ramesh, Jyothiraditya Scindia, K.V. Thomas, K. Ranhman Khan, K.H. Muniyappa, Shasi Tharoor, K.Chiranjivi, Mullappally Ramachandran, Rajiv Shukla, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, A.H. Khan Choudhury, Ninon Erring, E.M. Sudershan Nachiappan, K.C. Venugopal and J. Seelam.

A total of 683 flats ranging from Type I to Type VII are under unauthorised occupation of former employees and others for a period ranging from one month to 21 years, Naidu informed the House.

All these have been issued eviction notices, Naidu said. These included 3 Type VII houses, 15 Type VI, 34 Type V, 108 Type IV, 140 Type III, 176 Type II and 207 Type I houses. One Type I accommodation is under unauthorised occupation since March, 1993 against which total damage charges of ₹21,36,246 is due. In respect of others, damage charges that are due ranged from ₹4,247 to ₹60,04,164.
