The Indian Coast Guard Station Gopalpur, the second coast guard station in Odisha after Paradip, was commissioned by Bijaya Kumar Patnaik, the State Chief Secretary. The station is part of ongoing efforts by the Coast Guard to strengthen maritime and coastal security.
The assets based at Gopalpur are expected to help augment patrolling along the South Odisha coast for safeguarding Indian maritime interests.
Inspector General K. C. Pande, Commander Coast Guard Region (North-East), stressed on the need to maintain continuous vigil of this strategically important maritime State.
In a statement, he said the coast guard had initiated several measures to augment force levels and manpower to meet existing and future maritime challenges.
