West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra has been assigned to head the group of ministers that has been formed to look into the affairs of cash-starved Haldia Petrochemicals Ltd (HPL) and suggest measures for its revival.
West Bengal Panchayat and Public Health Engineering Minister Subrata Mukherjee, who is a member of the panel, told PTI that the panel would give advice on reviving the company and give suggestions to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to decide on the course of action.
HPL has been suffering huge losses due to high costs of imported naphtha.
Other members are the State’s Commerce and Industry Minister Partha Chatterjee, and Power Minister Manish Gupta. A Government order was issued onWednesday about the panel of ministers.
Mitra was also recently assigned by the Chief Minister to head a panel on industry.
