The Confederation of Indian Industry has joined hands with UNICEF to set up a knowledge management hub for corporate social responsibility in Chennai.
The hub will help private companies identify, design and implement their corporate social responsibility activities. The knowledge centre will act as a think-tank and play an advocacy role for CSR activities in Tamil Nadu.
A memorandum of understanding towards this was signed by Pradipa K. Mohapatra, Chairman, CSR Sub-Committee (CII Southern Region) and former Chairman, CII – Southern Region, and Satish Kumar, Chief, UNICEF State Office for Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Mohapatra said the CSR knowledge hub will particularly focus on women and children, across child rights and business principles.
Satish Kumar said, “India has the largest number of children. But unfortunately it also has maximum child abuse.” The country needs to integrate child rights into corporate activities, he said.
Andal Damodaran, Vice-Chairperson, Indian Council for Children Welfare, hoped that many children’s lives would change through this movement.
