Chennai-based start-up vTel Details has started a phone-based travel service for the city’s residents.
Called Routes, the service provides information on directions, bus routes, traffic density and bus and train ticket availability details over the phone.
This is the brainchild of young entrepreneurs, Ashwin Kumar and Bharat Somani.
The service was launched by Mayor Saidai Duraisamy in the presence of S. Rajendran, Additional Director-General of Police, State Traffic Planning and Mohan, Managing Director, State Express Transport Corporation.
Residents and commuters can call on 86 95 95 95 95 to get the required information.
Routes promises to provide callers real-time updated information on bus and train services time.
Updates
It also offers inter-city information on ticket availability, seating and fares for buses, trains and flights.
Updates on traffic jams across the city and the maximum auto fare between any two points in the city are also given.
While similar services are available on the Web, many give out wrong information or data that is outdated, said the company in a release.
More cities
The service has been launched in Chennai; it will soon expand to other cities across Tamil Nadu. Ashwin Kumar, Founder and Managing Director, Routes said: “Callers will receive all relevant information on their queries for travel routes, mode of transport, fare details and ticket status for both bus and train travel.
Innovative features
“We plan to add more innovative features in the near future.
"For providing accurate information, we are working in close association with the city traffic police.”
Kumar was earlier a credit card fraud prevention analyst with Dell International. Bharat Somani, Co-Founder, has previously worked with RR Donnelly, Merit Group and OKS BPO.
