The PanIIT Alumni, an apex body of different IIT alumni associations, will organise its annual global conference in Kolkata.
The conference called PanIIT Global Conference 2012 will be organised between December 7 and 10 this year.
It is likely to be attended by different State Chief Ministers including those from the eastern ones that include West Bengal, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.
The North-Eastern States are likely to confirm their participation soon. Around 3,500 IIT alumnus — from across the globe — are expected to attend the event.
Industry captains such as Infosys Chairman Emeritus, N.R. Narayanamurthy; HCL co-founder Arjun Malhotra; Tata Steel MD H.M. Nerurkar; ITC Ltd Chairman, Y.C. Deveshwar and politicians who are IIT ex-students such as Jairam Ramesh are likely to attend the conference.
The PanIIT meet is an annual event organised alternatively in the US and India since 2004.
Opportunity for Kolkata
According to Y.C. Deveshwar the hosting of such an event in the city gives the State Government an opportunity to showcase itself as a prospective investment destination.
“It’s an opportunity to draw in more investments in the State, especially since the government wants to showcase it as an ideal destination for industry,” he told reporters on the sidelines of a press meet.
