Sri Lanka released 37 Indian fishermen on Friday, even as the visiting Sri Lankan External Minister G L Peiris discussed the issue of fishermen with his Indian counterpart, Sushma Swaraj.
Briefing newspersons on the meeting, a spokesman of the Ministry of External Affairs said since the new Government came into office in May, 249 Indian fishermen have been released so far.
During the meeting, Swaraj thanked Sri Lanka for adopting what India feels is a fast-track approach towards repatriation of Indian fishermen taken into custody.
