Jibin Jose, a young entrepreneur from Startup Village whose firm developed a skateboard tracker, and his team have been invited to Canada for a two-week mentoring programme where they will interact with innovation experts, investors and mentors.

The startup firm Flip Technologies’s smartphone app The Smart Riser (skateboard tracker) was ranked among the top five in the Next Big Idea Contest 2014 organised jointly by the Bombay Stock Exchange Institute, the State Government of Ontario, IBM Global and Ryerson Futures. The product has also been rated as one of the most interesting products by Intel, which will provide its latest Edison board to the students for prototyping and for development support, a Startup Village press release said.

Jibin Jose, Abhimanyu Nair, Jishnu Vijayan, Balagovind Girish, Rohith Samuel and Abraham Alexander of Flip Technologies were involved in the development of the skateboard tracker. Jibin will attend a two-week bespoke programme at Toronto’s Discovery District.

During his stay, the young entrepreneur will meet mentors and experts in innovation ecosystem. He will also scout for business development opportunities and networking.

The press release quoted Startup Village Chairman Sanjay Vijayakumar as saying: “These student entrepreneurs are proof that if you have the idea, the enthusiasm and the drive, there is a world of opportunity awaiting you.”

Jibin Jose and Abhimanyu Nair, co-founders of Flip Technologies, had passed out from Toc-H Institute of Science and Technology, Arakkunnam. Jibin was one of the five students who had gone to Silicon Valley as part of the SV Square programme last year.
