With AirItaly and WOW air starting their flights to India, travellers from Delhi to the West seem to have more options. Both the airlines will operate three times a week.

While AirItaly will link Delhi to Milan, the low-cost Icelandic carrier WOW air will offer non-stop services to Reykjavik.

AirItaly and WOW air are offering immediate connections to the United States, while WOW also offers the opportunity to fly to Canadian cities also.

AirItaly, in which Qatar Airways has a 49 per cent stake, is a full service airline with seats in economy and business class. Addressing a news conference to announce the AirItaly flight, Rossen Dimitrov, Chief Operating Officer, also said that the airline will start services from Milan to Mumbai from December 14 this year.

“We did not have the right infrastructure in place nor personnel or sales team,” he replied when asked why the airline decided to push back the launch of its India services. The airline had initially announced that the flights to India will be launched in October this year.

AirItaly also plans to have an arrangement with Vistara which will help passengers arriving on the foreign airline to connect to more destinations in the country on the Indian airline.

Kiran Jain, Managing Director, WOW air, said that the launch of the flight meant that passengers from India will be able to connect to 13 destinations in North America including Chicago, Washington DC, Orlando and New York within 145 minutes of arriving in Reykjavik.
