Telecom major Airtel on Tuesday evening faced widespread network disruptions leaving users unable to make calls.
Social media platforms like X and others were abuzz with complaints from users across Chennai, Coimbatore, Hyderabad and Kerala, who were reporting that they were unable to make calls on Airtel networks and were facing call drops. However, mobile data services on the telecom network were functioning.
The outage tracker website, Downdetector, clocked around 8,400 reports of the Airtel network being down as of 9 pm on Tuesday night. A heat map of the outages reported showed that it was Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Madurai, and other places in the South.
Most users wrote on X that they were not able to make calls starting from around 7:00 pm, and even after over 2 hours, it it was still not resolved as of 10 pm.
The telco confirmed that there were network issues across Tamil Nadu, and in pockets of Kerala and it was being rectified.
“We regret to inform that Airtel is currently facing a temporary network disruption in certain areas of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Our technical teams are diligently working to address the issue and restore services as quickly as possible,” an Airtel Spokesperson said.
