With Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao setting a June 2 deadline for completion of Rythu Bandhu disbursals, the officials distributed 40.76 lakh pattadar passbooks to farmers in 30 out of 31 districts in the State.

The officials have conducted grama sabhas (village meetings) in 10,554 out of the 10,558 villages in 563 mandals to distribute the passbooks and cheques.

Financial aid

The scheme, introduced this month, is aimed at providing financial assistance of ₹4,000 an acre to farmers for their credit needs in the kharif season. They will get another ₹4,000 ahead of the Rabi season. The government allocated ₹12,000 crore in the 2018-19 Budget for the scheme.

At a review meeting last week, the Chief Minister asked the officials to complete the Rythu Bandhu disbursals by June 2, the State Formation Day.

The State had printed 49.94 lakh patttadar passbooks, which consist of details of landholding by farmers. The government has conducted a survey of lands to ascertain the beneficiaries of the scheme.

Deadline to be met

“The data is two-day old. The Revenue Department would have distributed more passbooks in the last two days. We are confident of meeting the June 2 deadline,” a senior official told BusinessLine .

Districts like Mancherial, Medak, Nizamabad, Peddapalli and Sircilla districts are far ahead of others in the distribution of passbooks.

Out of the 57.88 lakh cheques printed exclusively for the scheme, the officials distributed 45.12 lakh. “We are confident of distributing the rest in the next three days,” the official said.
