Anupam Kher has decided to step down from the position of the Chairman of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) due to international professional commitments.
In a tweet on Wednesday Kher stated, “It has been an honour, a privilege and a great learning experience to be the Chairman of the prestigious @FTIIOfficial. But because of my international assignments I won’t have much time to devote at the institute. Hence, decided to send my resignation. Thank you”.
He also tweeted a copy of his resignation letter. In the letter addressed to I&B Minister, Kher said that the international TV show that he is associated with has got an extension requiring him to spend more time in US. He stated given his international commitments it would not be fair to hold a position of responsibility and accountability without being actively involved in the operations of FTII.
The actor was appointed as the FTII chairman last year, a few months, after the controversial stint of his predecessor Gajendra Chauhan had ended.
Kher, who has starred in Oscar-winning Hollywood flick Silver Lining Playbook , is currently associated with the American medical drama TV series titled New Amsterdam.
