The Andhra Pradesh Government has identified tourism as one of the major sectors to attract investments and generate employment in the State.
Several MoUs were signed during the CII partnership summit held earlier this year and also last year and the Government is monitoring the progress of the projects on a regular basis, according to officials of the tourism department.
According to the officials, 75 tourism projects worth Rs 3,341 crore were grounded and 38 projects worth Rs 10,958 crore are in the pipeline. The State has been divided into five tourist circuits for attracting investments and promoting tourism. The State Government expects Rs 2,200-crore private investments in the sector to develop infrastructure.
Rise in tourist arrivals
There has been a 30 per cent hike in domestic tourist arrivals into the State. At present, for the year ended March 2017, domestic arrivals amounted to 158.5 million and international tourist arrivals to 3.24 lakh. The contribution of the tourism sector to the gross state domestic product is at present 7.3 per cent.
The State is planning 24 major tourism events during the current financial year at an expense of Rs 65 crore.
