Apollo Hospitals will be hosting Apollo Cancer Conclave 2015, an international conference aimed at improving cancer management in India and abroad, from February 6 to 8.

More than 3200 delegates and 315 faculty including eminent researchers and medical practitioners from India and abroad are expected to attend the event.

The conclave provides a platform to deliberate on cancer management through panel discussions, interactive sessions and debates, all organised with a view to encourage a multi-modality approach in cancer care, P. Vijay Anand Reddy, Director, Apollo Cancer Hospital, said.

The conclave will be bringing together experts in oncology to deliberate on the recent advances in the fields of surgical, radiation Oncology, haematology and robotic surgery and its practical application.

Subjects such as MRI guided radiation therapy, proton therapy and ways to augment patient’s immune system to fight cancer will be discussed.

Reports suggest that India witnesses about one million new cancer cases every year and this is expected to double in 20 years. As per the World Health Organisation guidelines, one cancer centre is required for every 1 million population. However, in India, with a population of 1.25 billion, there are only 400 units.

“This means both the private sector and the government must work together to set up more than 2000 centres if we have to strengthen the country’s competency and capacity to manage the disease,” Reddy said.
