In a bid to speed up implementation of industrial, infrastructure and social sector projects, the West Bengal government has decided to form a special project monitoring cell.
The cell will be under the Cabinet Secretariat and directly monitored by the State Chief Secretary Malay De, government in the know told BusinessLine .
Apart from the Chief Secretary, another IAS officer will be part of the project monitoring cell. This apart, some IT professionals are also expected to be on board.
Sources say the cell will help the Chief Secretary monitor and fast-track large industrial projects and work in the infrastructure sector too. Road projects are said to be a priority in the State.
The project management cell’s ambit has also been extended to supervise flagship social sector schemes.
The Kanyashree scheme, which seeks to improve the status and well being of girls, specifically those from socio-economically disadvantages families, through conditional cash transfers, may also come under its purview.
