Bio-fuels are clean, sustainable and environment friendly fuels, which not only supplement conventional energy sources but also help farmers by boosting their income, said S Varadachari, Executive Director (in-charge), IndianOil, Karnataka State Office and State Level Coordinator for Oil Marketing Companies.
Speaking at an event to commemorate the ‘World Bio-Fuel Day’, Varadachari stressed the need for greater usage of alternate fuels such as bio-fuels for conservation of precious oil resources and to bring down the dependence on imports.
Delivering the keynote address, Karnataka Principal Secretary of Transport Department, B Basavaraaju, emphasised upon the importance of bio-fuels in transport sector, especially with reference to India where almost 70 per cent of petroleum requirement is met through imports.
Being clean and environment friendly, bio-fuels will go a long way in bringing down the adverse impact of fossil fuel on environment and in meeting the ever-growing energy requirement of the country.
University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru’s Senior Scientist Rajesh Kumar K, in his lecture, dwelled upon genesis, characteristics and various advantages of bio-fuel. The event also saw children taking part in essay, painting and quiz competitions.
