BMW Group India will distribute 365 BMW engine and transmission units free for engineering and technical institutes across the country to help students get hands on training.
This is part of 'Skill Next', a technical skill training initiative, launched today coinciding with the 11th anniversary of the car manufacturer's Chennai plant.
As part of the programme, Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and a team of students from College of Engineering, Anna University, will assemble a BMW engine and transmission unit at the main assembly line of the unit at Mahindra World City, about 45 km South of Chennai, according to a press release from the company.
The 365 engines and transmission units will be distributed by 2018-end to engineering colleges, industrial training institutes and polytechnics. They will be given away on first-come-first-served basis.
Trainers will be devised for the institutes. Over 40 after sales master technicians will conduct workshops at BMW dealerships in 20 cities.
