Precautionary measures by the Karnataka government has made its prisons Covid-free.
Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, while reviewing the progress of the Home Department on Thursday, appreciated the police department for initiating proactive steps and making prisons Covid-free.
As per the Supreme Court directions, Karnataka released 5,005 prisoners on bail and parole. Overcrowding of prisoners in the prison has been reduced from 110 percent to 95 percent.
At the review meeting, the Chief Minister appreciated the efforts of the Police in combating Covid-19 and managing lockdown.
He instructed that police stations dealing with Cyber crime, economic offence and narcotics be strengthened in line with modern day needs.
The meeting took a decision to continue the services of more than 3,000 home guards who are at the risk of losing their jobs and depute them to different departments. The Chief Minister directed officials to review the proposal of providing the services of the home guards to private companies.
The officers briefed that training has been initiated to 200 SDRF Staff to handle the monsoon situation. They would be deputed to four divisions shortly.
