In a bid to streamline parameters for ease of doing business and make it uniform across the States, the Western Region of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is planning to formulate its own Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) matrix.
The western region of the industry body, which comprises of Goa, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, is also planning to expand the concept of EoDB clinics to all the States.
“Not all the parameters need to be the same when it comes to EoDB ratings of the States. Hence, we are planning to formulate our own EoDB matrix which will allow comparison of States on uniform parameters,” said Piruz Khambatta, Chairman of the CII-Western Region.
Conflicting issues
Khambatta further said that the concept of EoDB clinics, which was started in Gujarat in June 2017, will be replicated in other States to bring industry and government on the same table to resolve the conflicting issues.
“We have been successful in conducting seven such EoDB clinic programmes across Gujarat cities, where industry players (even non-CII members) from nearby areas will come and engage with the government, regulator and put forward their problems and get almost immediate resolution,” he said.
The EoDB clinics concept involves the State Industries Commissioner, district-level industry official, officials from the revenue department, pollution control department and others concerning the respective industry zones. CII-Western Region had conducted seven such EoDB clinic programmes in industrial clusters of Surat, Vapi, Bhavnagar, Rajkot, Ahmedabad, Bharuch and Vadodara.
“We have received overwhelming response from the industry as they felt ease of doing business in real sense with government at their doorstep to resolve the issues. We look forward to replicate the same in Maharashtra, MP and Goa,” said Khambatta on unveiling the focus theme of the reigon — ‘ARISE’ — accountability, reforms, innovation, sustainability and employment.
