Eminent scientist and Bharat Ratna awardee CNR Rao has called upon the science fraternity to make full use of nanotechnology.
“Unimaginable things have taken place on the field of science in the past two-three years. In the field of nano medicine, advancement in the last two to three years has been tremendous,” he said at the curtain raiser of the Bengaluru India Nano event, which is to be held from December 5- 7.
Typically, usage of nanotechnology enables early detection of cancer, amongst other things. The scientist said that today the world is witnessing the promise of nanotechnology across verticals, such as engineering, medicine, energy, transportation and communication, to name a few.
However, he had a word of caution. “In our overcommitment to talking about uses and applications of nano technology, let us make sure that the excitement about science doesn't not die.”
Rao’s view was echoed by State Minister for Information Technology, Biotechnology and Science and Technology KJ George who said nanotechnology usage is gaining worldwide recognition and at this point in time, the country has to catch up with the fast-moving science and technology.
Bengaluru has been in the forefront of biotechnology and some of the star-tups are now catching the global eye. Recently, nanotechnology start-up Log 9 Materials secured a Pre Series-A funding of around ₹3 crore from Metaform Ventures, Hemant Luthra, Chairman, Mahindra CIE, GEMS and other angel investors.
