Emerging mid-segment smartphone brand Comio is gearing up to establish its own manufacturing unit in India before the close of this fiscal.
Sujith Rayirath, General Manager (Sales), Comio, who was in the city to introduce two smartphone models - COMIO X1 Note and COMIO C1 Pro - told reporters that the Hong Kong headquartered company, Topwise Communications, which specialises in manufacture of all categories of smartphones, PC tablets and POS machines, decided to introduce its own brand Comio, through its wholly-owned subsidiary.
The company started operations in India in May last year and later in August 2017 launched Comio. The smartphone was first introduced in the northern and western region. “We entered south only last month. Since then, over 10,000 Comio phones have been sold in Tamil Nadu alone. We have since launch sold around 6 lakh handsets. We are targeting close this fiscal with sales of 3 million handsets. Around 1.25 lakh Comio phones are being activated every month.”
To take care of the Indian market, Comio plans to invest ₹500 crore, which will include marketing initiatives, setting up a manufacturing facility and establishing a network of after sales service.
