Five months into the pandemic, India’s death toll due to Covid-19 has crossed the 14,000-mark.

As on June 23, India recorded 4,40,215 Covid-19 cases (up to 56 per cent), of which 2,48,190 have recovered and another 14,011 (3.18 per cent) have died.

Between June 22 and 23, 14,933 new Covid-19 cases were registered, according to data maintained by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). In the same period, 10,944 people recovered and 312 persons died of the virus.

Maharashtra has the highest number of cases, at 1,35,796, of which 67,706 have recovered and 6,283 have died. Delhi has overtaken Tamil Nadu to emerge second in terms of case burden, with 62,655 cases, of which 36,602 have recovered and 2,233 have died. Tamil Nadu is a close third with 62,087 cases, of which 34,112 have recovered and 794 have died.

Other high-burden States include Gujarat (27,825 cases and 1,684 deaths), Uttar Pradesh (18,322 cases and 569 deaths), Rajasthan (15,232 cases and 356 deaths), West Bengal (14,358 and 569 deaths) and Madhya Pradesh (12,078 cases and 521 deaths).
