With many States - including Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Delhi - reporting fewer new Covid-19 cases, the number of people testing positive for the novel coronavirus in India is recorded to be 3,26,098 during the last 24 hours, according to data released by Health Ministry on Saturday.
The number of daily deaths too fell marginally to 3,890, taking the total death toll to 2,66,207.
Cumulatively, India reported 2,43,72,907 confirmed cases of which total active cases were 36,73,802 and those who recovered were 20,432,898.
Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan will hold a meeting with the Health Ministers of Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat via video conferencing to review current covid situation and the progress of vaccination drive in their respective states.
Meanwhile, India administered a total of 18,04,57,579 vaccine shots with 11,03,625 jabs given in the last 24 hours till Saturday morning. In the phase 3 vaccination drive which started on May 1 for 18-44 age group, 3,28,216 beneficiaries got the vaccine doses on Friday and cumulatively 42,58,756 people got inoculated so far across 32 States/UTs.
“India’s total active caseload has decreased to 36,73,802 on Saturday which comprises 15.07 per cent of the country’s total positive cases. A net decline of 31,0191 cases is recorded in the last 24 hours. 11 states cumulatively account for 77.26 per cent of India’s total active cases,” the government said in a press release.
