Debris of the missing Indian Coast Guard Dornier has been located at a depth of 996 metre and 16.5 nautical miles off Pichavaram (famous for the mangrove forest) near Cuddalore.

Indian naval Submarine Sindhudhvaj on redeployment to locate the missing aircraft picked up a ''barrage'' of transmissions in a depth of 996 metre on July 6. This information was a vital source for deployment of the Reliance vessel Olympic Canyon to localise the search.

Consequently, the uninterrupted search, which included 693 hr of surface effort and 196 hr of air effort finally yielded positive results, says a release from the Coast Guard.

The Multi-functional Support Vessel of Reliance India with integrated Remotely Operated Vehicle located and recovered Flight Data Recorder and one Line Replacement Unit from a depth of 950 meters in a unique and first ever salvage at such depths, the release said.
