Even as Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati announced that an alliance with the Congress is not possible in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, the Congress hopes that differences could be ironed out if the leaders hold discussions.

Congress’s media in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala in an interactions with media persons on Wednesday remarked, decision on alliances are not taken at press conferences. “BSP leader has expressed mutual respect and confidence vis-à-vis Congress president Rahul Gandhi and (UPA Chairperson) Sonia Gandhi. I think that is the most important issue rather than reading multiple meanings into the statement of Mayawati.” Once the leaders interact all other crises can be ironed out

He said wherever alliances are possible in tune with the ideology of the Congress, the Congress Working Committee’s sub group on alliances will take a decision after discussions with the State units. “In Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Telangana, the State units will take a decision on alliances to fight the BJP and TRS. Wherever alliance is not possible, there will be healthy contests. Congress’s aim is to unseat BJP and TRS and thus help the people. In this aim, whoever can walk with us is welcome. Others can take their path. But that does not mean that the fight against BJP will be weakened,” Surjewala said.
