Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has established a research and innovation centre at IIT Madras Research Park.
The new centre was inaugurated by Dr V.K. Saraswat, Scientific Advisor to Defence Minister, and Secretary, Defence R&D.
The centre will work closely with the academia, industry and research scholars. Initially, the areas of research will include semiconductor device, tracked vehicle system, speech recognition, modelling and simulation.
The success of the model research and innovation centre is likely to give birth to more centres at various reputed institutions, says a release.
The DRDO works under Department of Defence Research and Development of Ministry of Defence. It works towards enhancing self-reliance in defence systems and undertakes design and development leading to production of weapon systems and equipment based on the requirements laid down by the three defence services (Army, Navy and Air Force).
