About 4,000 students in the age group of 11-14 years will take part in a Codefest — a hackathon in Telangana later this month. The students, run by Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS), in 20 different locations (villages and towns) across the State on March 23.
The students will be asked to come out with problems that they observed in their day-to-day life and solutions for the same. “We will also give them a few problems for which they will have to suggest solutions,” a spokesperson of Sunitha Infovision, an EdTech company, said.
“They will form teams based on their interests and specific skillsets. At the end of the hackathon, they will have to come up with solutions and must pitch product ideas,” he said.
The social coding event will bring together computer programmers and others to develop a software programme to address a social problem.
All the 4,000 students were given training in coding for 100 hours spread over 45 days. Nearly 100 trainers and experts were drawn from the corporate world.
“We introduced coding as a fourth language in the social welfare residential schools. We strongly believe that this skill will catapult the most marginalised kids into the core of knowledge economy,” R S Praveen Kumar, Secretary of TSWREIS, said.
