The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N. Kiran Kumar, today wrote to the Centre to exempt the State from the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET)-2013.

In a letter to the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Ghulam Nabi Azad, the Chief Minister requested the Centre to issue an order exempting the State from the proposed NEET-2013, in the best interest of the students of Andhra Pradesh.

Amendments to act

The introduction of NEET would involve certain amendments to the AP Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admissions and Prohibition of Capitation Fee) Act, 1983, and also the Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences Act, 1986, under which the State’s Common Entrance Test is held.

The ranking is based on 25 per cent of marks secured in the intermediate examination and 75 per cent of the marks from entrance test.

The students who joined intermediate in 2011-12 are eligible for 25 per cent for the marks secured in the Intermediate Board exam.

This is according to the legal provision in the relevant law.

TRADE MISSION

A trade mission led by the Governor of the State of Washington, Christine O. Gregoire, will call on the Chief Minister where several memorandums of understanding will be inked.

The mission seeks to boost trade and tourism.

At the meeting to be held tomorrow, MoUs will be signed for collaboration in the sectors of bio-technology, agriculture, horticulture, IT and clean energy.
