Butterfly Fields, an educational venture started by a group of IIT-IIM graduates, has brought on the table a new course for children between five and 13 years, involving hands-on experience in science and maths subjects.

It will offer the courses for kids, called School Beyond initiative, across six venues in the city. “The basic idea is to create an interest and curiosity amongst children in science and math subjects. Whatever they learn in the school, they will be trying out the physical models through our course,” Venkat Changavalli, Chairman of Butterfly Edufields, told media persons here today.

It is a two-term programme of twelve week sessions with classes being held on weekends either on Saturday evenings or Sunday mornings for two hours each. The first term is from July-September, while the second is from November-January.

“As part of the course, each child will get to build his or her own model related to science or match concepts. Teachers will guide the child to create the models with basic raw materials and tools on subjects such as centre of gravity and air resistance,” K. Sharat Chandra, Managing Director, said.

The group’s earlier initiative in the area of math learning covered 3,500 government schools in East and West Godavari districts.
