Gitam University sets up teams to strengthen ties with industry

Gitam University is planning to depute five academic teams to reputed corporations and companies to explore synergies and establish partnerships in R&D, internships and placements, according to a press release.

The university plans linkages with industry to make the curriculum industry-relevant and produce more industry-ready students, University Registrar M. Potharaju has said. He was addressing senior faculty members on ‘Expose Industry-2013’ programme held here on Saturday.

The University has identified five academic teams to be deputed to reputed industries. In the initial stage, the teams will interact with major companies in manufacturing, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, bio-technology and IT sectors. The academic teams will discuss research and development activities, summer internships, joint design and development, management training, industrial visits and placements.

Gitam University has a good relationship with TCS, HPCL, Dr Reddy’s Lab, Japan-based Eisai Pharma, Erricson India, National Shipping Agency and Instruments India Limited and others. The university has established a special R&D wing to offer consultancy works and around 10 assignments are under progress. It is also planning to invite food processing industries to start joint research programmes.

During 2011-12, a total of 106 companies visited the university campus for placements and some companies have shown interest to tie-up with the university. The university is also planning to establish a research centre in Bangalore to conduct research in bio-technology, rural technology and nano technology. It is planning to extend these research facilities to industries.
