The Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations has placed its chief executive and secretary Gerry Arathoon under suspension on charges of promoting text books written by his wife without seeking the executive body’s approval. The council conducts the ICSE and ISC examination and has some 1,800 schools affiliated to it.

The decision of the council has been emailed to all school heads while Arathoon has been given 15 days time to reply back to the council.

Under the council’s rules, every official must inform the council and take its approval before starting sales of books if it has been written by officials or relatives.

Confirming the development, Chairman of the Council Fr Jose Aikera said they were awaiting the response of Arathoon before they decide on the next course of action.

Anita, Arathoon’s wife, had authored two textbooks of class IX and X. Their books were published last year and Arathoon has allegedly not informed the council about this.
