The West Bengal Assembly today passed the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (amendment) Bill 2011 to enable the civic body to waive penalty on tax arrears. The waiver would help the civic body to realise substantial money from defaulters.
Introducing the Bill in the House, the Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Minister, Mr Firhad Hakim, said that the corporation had earlier met with success in such schemes.
The CPI(M) MLA, Mr Anisur Rahman's amendment to the Bill was defeated in the House.
