IIT-Kharagpur has set a record among IITs with more than a thousand of its students securing jobs in the first phase of campus placements, officials said on Wednesday.

Around 1,000 students accepted job offers in the first round that ended in December.

At IIT-Bombay, there were 900 offers while IIT-Delhi got about 750 and IIT-Kanpur 700.

Besides such big names as Google, Microsoft, Oracle, Shell, Deutsche Bank, ITC, Schlumberger, Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse, Abbott and EXL, start-ups such as Flipkart and Housing.com also made multiple offers.

The highest package offered was by a US-based company that has signed on an IITian for an annual salary of $125,000 (around Rs 77 lakh). The highest domestic package offered was Rs 37 lakh.

Two new dual-degree programmes — Financial Engineering and Engineering Entrepreneurship — proved to be a big hit with 85 per cent students from those courses getting placed.
