Bangalore-based ReNewIT, a Microsoft Registered Refurbisher and a provider of re-engineered computers, servers and other computing infrastructure has announced a new initiative to bridge the digital divide in schools. Called 'Computers In Schools' the initiative aims to connect around 5 lakh students of Government schools of Karnataka by end of 2015, according to a company statement.

The initiative will be supported with training programs for teachers to get them get accustomed to using information, communication and technology (ICT).

'Computers In Schools' initiative will provide refurbished computers to government schools at starting price range of Rs 4,500 and set up a computer lab with internet connectivity, company officials said. Further, the initiative plans to create employment opportunities for local youths who can be trained to repair and maintain computers, computer labs of government schools.

Mukund B S, Founder & Director, RenewIT said: "Our plan to target especially government schools because that is where more than 70 per cent of Indians are getting educated and most of the students enrolled in government schools don't have access to computers."
