The Rajya Sabha on Wednesday passed the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Teachers’ Cadre) Bill, 2019. According to the Bill, colleges and universities will now be provisioning reservation for teaching posts as per the total strength of the institute. This will also provide for the reservation of faculty in appointments by direct recruitment of persons belonging to the Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) and the Socially and Economically Backward Classes in central education institutions and to matters connected to therewith or incidental thereto. It will also ensure that the process of recruitment of faculty is resumed and the vacancies are filled up.
