Parents worry a lot about their child’s education. And these concerns start even before the kids start kindergarten. “There is always some anxiety about when application forms will be available for various schools as there is no reliable source of information,” says Rajesh Sanghvi, co-founder of SchoolConnects.in, an online platform that connects parents with schools and other education partners.
The platform, launched in November 2014, offers researched and validated information, including admission timelines and processes, and selection criteria of over 1,800 schools across nine major cities. “We have a dedicated team who reaches out to schools to get the most recent status and provide consolidated views on admission calendar and number of seats,” says Umesh Jain, founder of SchoolConnects.in.
Parents can register to get alerts for admission events of schools of interest. The community has over 21,000 members. The recently launched mobile app allows real-time structured discussion through focussed chat groups categorised by areas and schools.
A recent addition is a common application form — parents can apply to multiple schools of their choice through a single form. The start-up is also working with schools and education partners who are expanding into new areas, cities or boards, says Sanghvi. It has also partnered with uniform, stationery and learning toys and providers.
SchoolConnects plans to expand to top 25 cities, bring in data on play schools, provide information on events, tuition, courses and eventually enable additional school services such as payment of fees through the platform. It is also on-boarding more schools for the common application form. “Schools can save on printing forms, brochures, keeping clerks for collection and compilation of forms; parents can save the time otherwise spent waiting in queue outside schools,” says Sanghvi.
