Amid controversy over the four-year degree programme, Delhi University on Monday held an open house session for students and parents to give them a fair idea about the new pattern to be implemented this year.

The programme ‘Open Days’ is a two-day session organised in the North Campus where students and parents can come up with queries.

A large number of students attended the 3-hour session to get acquainted with the new programme.

“Most of them were Class XII students. We had a question-answer session where students asked many queries,” Dean of Students’ Welfare, J.M Khurana, said.

After the session, a student said, “Before coming here, we were confused about the admission process this time...But now we are gradually getting a clear picture.”

University officials also clarified as to which courses would have entrance tests and said there would be no such test for English Journalism and English (Hons) this time.

But, Khurana said, admission in the Hindi Journalism will be done through entrance test only.

Journalism, too, will be a four-year-programme like other courses and its syllabus will be announced in 2-3 days, he said.

Besides Hindi Journalism, there will entrance test for Music, French, German, Spanish Studies, Social Work, Management Studies and Bachelor of Fine Arts.

The new four-year programme with multiple degree options and multiple exit points marks a shift from the previous 10+2+3 pattern.
