The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) has requested the Andhra Pradesh Government to recognise company secretaries for Value Added Tax audit.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the southern India regional conference of the institute here on Friday, Mr Nesar Ahmad, President, ICSI, said some States including Kerala, Jharkhand and Orissa were favourable to recognising VAT audit by company secretaries.

The profession of company secretaries was becoming global in nature and ICSI was working together with some member countries of the World Trade Organisation to accord global recognition to Indian company secretaries.

“The European Union, Australia and China are also supporting this effort,’’ he added.

ICSI was also working on a draft national policy on corporate governance which would be released soon, Mr Ahmad said.
