Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore Director Sunil Vachani has demitted office, a few months before his term was set to expire.
Around two months back Vachani had requested that he be relieved of the charge which has been accepted, a senior official in the HRD ministry said.
“Vachani had requested that he be relieved, citing personal reasons. His request has been accepted by the Board of Governors of the Institute as well as the HRD ministry,” the official said.
The senior most faculty of institute has been asked to take over as the acting Director, the official added.
Last year, Biocon CMD Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw who is the chairperson of IIMB’s board of governors had recommended extension of Vachani’s tenure but the proposal was not accepted by the HRD ministry.
