The IIT (Hyderabad) has started an MTech programme in ‘Integrated Design and Manufacturing (IDM)’. The course merges manufacturing and design keeping in view the growing demands from the manufacturing with regard to designs.
“The idea is to cater to the industry needs and make the engineers more industry-ready,” Vinayak Eswaran, Professor and Head of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, IIT Hyderabad, said in a statement on Wednesday.
“Engineers are trained in traditional manufacturing methodologies, with little or no focus on design methodologies. Design is fast becoming an integral part in manufacturing the world over,” he said.
