India needs to find solutions to increase agricultural productivity and water conservation instead of focusing on driverless cars or war machines, Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog said during an event organised by the alumni association of IIT-Kanpur here on Saturday.

“Our country does not require innovation for driverless cars, war machines etc, it needs innovations...like which right seed and fertilizer can be provided to the farmers so that our agriculture productivity can go up. India needs innovation in the areas of transportation, recycling of water,” NITI Aayog CEO said .

The country is facing challenges related to quality of education and health and these challenges can be only confronted with major technological breakthroughs, he added.

Startup Master Class (SMC) is the flagship entrepreneur event of the Alumni Association IIT Kanpur, organised along-with IIT-Kanpur Incubation centre, eCell and participants from IITs and IIMs. With the aim to foster and nurture budding entrepreneurs, it brings together start-ups, mentors and investors to build interactions and strengthen the network within the entrepreneurial community.

“We are here to support start-up movement and I am delighted that IIT alumni have take this initiative,” said Kant. SMC--which came in to existence in 2014, has also signed up an MoU with NITI Aayog to further build momentum and deeper penetrations in the startup catchment area.
