Jain University has built a model of the warship INS Vikrant – the first aircraft carrier used by the Indian government in 1971 Indo-Pak war.

Students of the animation department in Jain University came together and built a model of INS Vikrant R11, a replica which measures 22 feet in length. "Every year we come up with some new initiative to observe the Independence Day in our University and this year we conceptualized this idea to evoke the memories related to our freedom war,” said Dinesh Damodaran, HoD of Animation Department. Somshekhar V K, Professor of Visual Art Faculty in Animation Department, Jain University, said that it took 40 days to build this model of INS Vikrant and 25 students worked on this project. "We closely studied the structure and design of the original warship and then started with sketching and sectional drawing and then implemented them in designing the model. We tried to replicate all the significant details and bring 90 per cent of likeness in to the model,” he added.

In keeping with the new UGC norm released by the HRD Ministry to observe a fortnight-long Independence Day from August 9 to 23, the department has put the model of the warship in display from 13th August and will continue to project it till August 23.
