Jain (deemed-to-be university) has conducted its 8th annual convocation ceremony. A total of 3,067 graduates were conferred degrees this year. This included 74 graduates who won gold medals, while 166 secured top ranks. Sixteen students received their MPhil degrees, while 82 were given Ph.D. degrees, according to the institution.
Professor S. C. Sharma, Director – National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), was the chief guest. In his commencement address, Sharma spoke about Indian higher education’s transformation and emphasised on understanding present day education as a cultural form.
He encouraged the graduates to use higher education as a path for character building and not merely as a means for career development. "Blending the essence of modern education and Indian ethos and values should be at the heart of all institutions,” he said.
Yogesh Mohan Rao Thakre, an M.Tech. Avionics graduate (batch of 2016-2018), who is now placed at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), said the Jain faculty consisting of senior scientists, who come from various domains and industries, guided him and shared their valuable experiences with him.
Other educationists present included C. G. Krishnadas Nair, Chancellor – Jain and N. Sundararajan, Vice-Chancellor.
