The Gandhian Centre for Philosophical Arts and Sciences (GCPAS) under Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) has launched MA in ‘Art and Peace Studies’ from this academic year.

A statement by Varadesh Hiregange, Director of GCPAS, said that MA in ‘Art and Peace Studies’ deals with social and international crises and how art could be used as a medium for peace.

The course includes subjects such as ‘Society and Polity’, ‘Development Studies’, ‘Gender Studies’ and ‘Gandhian Studies’.

GCPAS had launched MA in ‘Ecosophical Aesthetics’ last year. ‘Ecosophical Aesthetics’ primarily deals with contemporary ecological crises and philosophical appreciation of art forms. In the new curriculum of ‘Ecosophical Aesthetics’, subjects such as ‘Translation Studies’ and ‘Yakshagana Studies’ have been introduced.

While ‘Ecosophical Aesthetics’ focusses more on humanities, ‘Peace Studies’ deal with social sciences.

Hiregange said that anyone with graduation or equivalent degree can take up these programmes.

The professional possibilities include journalism, media and communication; socio-cultural, political and environmental sector; academics and research; policy research organisations; and international relations agencies among others, he added.
