University College in Mangaluru (formerly Government College) is planning to set up a ‘School of Finance and Analytics’ on its campus.
Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, M Veerappa Moily, Member of Parliament from Chikballapur and alumnus of the college, said the college is entering its 150th anniversary. To mark the occasion, Mangaluru University has decided to launch ‘School of Finance and Analytics’ on the college campus from the next academic year.
Moily, who is also the honorary president of the old students’ association, said it has been decided to approach the State government seeking ₹50 crore for the establishment of the school. He will take a delegation to the Chief Minister in this regard, he added. The objective is to make the proposed school a centre of excellence.
Moily said he has discussed the matter with various leaders in the banking industry. Many of them have agreed to support the cause.
Set up in 1865, the college has completed 149 years of operation. The library of the college has some of the rare books. Steps will also be taken to digitize the books and other publications in the library, he added.
