The Moodbidri-based Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering (MITE) has signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with Binghamton University of New York.
Addressing presspersons in Mangaluru on Tuesday, Rajesh Chowta, Chairman of MITE, said the partnership would encourage exchange of academic, scientific and cultural experiences among faculty and students.
He said Binghamton University would explore the avenues for collaborative research in specific areas, and support conferences and workshops. Discussions and sharing of information on incubation of start-up companies are also part of the collaboration.
Eswara Prasad, Principal of MITE, said the institute had set up an incubation centre to encourage student start-ups.
The current agreement was finalised after campus visits and several rounds of discussions, he said.
Harvey Stenger, President of Binghamton University, Donald Nieman, Executive Vice-President for Academic Affairs and Provost. Chowta and Prasad signed the MoA in the US on May 4.
Started in 1946, Binghamton University has been designated as the State University of New York, Prasad said.
Established in 2007, MITE offers bachelor’s degrees in Electronics and Communications Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Information Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, and Civil Engineering.
