The University of Hyderabad (UoH) has constituted a five-member committee headed by Pro Vice-Chancellor, B P Sanjay, to propose concrete measures for improving the quality of teaching and research at the university and taking it to the next level.

At a special academic council meeting convened on Tuesday, Vice-Chancellor, P. Appa Rao, and senior professors of the university deliberated on ways to improve the quality of teaching and research at the institution.

Addressing the heads of department, deans of schools, senior faculty members, and student representatives, the VC made a presentation outlining the best practices of the university and sought the opinion of council members on some key issues.

The university, which is already ranked among the top institutions of higher learning in the country, has now embarked on a mission to attain the status of Institution of Eminence, a scheme announced by the Union Ministry of HRD, Appa Rao said

Supplementing classroom lectures with online instruction, permitting students to pace the duration of their course work, greater flexibility in modes of evaluation, rigorous monitoring of student dissertations and research output, tutoring time outside the classroom to enable academically weaker sections to catch up, and tightening the quality of examinations, including admissions tests, were among the many suggestions that came up at the meeting, according to a release.
