The Indian Institute of Technology-Madras, has received a ‘gift’ from US-based Trimble Inc to establish a technology lab for architecture, engineering and construction.
The lab will expand the institute’s leadership in training and research in 3D building design, digital fabrication and sustainable built environment. The gift also enables IIT-Madras to integrate Trimble’s solutions across its curricula that are rapidly transforming how building and living environments are designed and constructed, a company press release said.
The lab will benefit the Department of Civil Engineering students, who will be able to experience Trimble solutions. Applications of these solutions range from scanning of historic buildings for preservation, design and 3D printing of architectural building models, digital fabrication of custom-lab equipment to monitor coastal erosion and construction cost estimation and scheduling to improve productivity and reduce costs, the release said.
The lab will include a broad range of Trimble software solutions such as RealWorks scanning software, Trimble Business Centre, Vico Office Suite, GCEstimator Suite, Tekla Structures, Tekla Structural Designer, Tekla Tedds, Sefaira Architecture and its popular 3D modelling software and SketchUp Pro, the release said.
